Being this one of the nine subregions that make up the department, it enjoys varied climates that allow it to have a strong agricultural vocation for having crops of fruits, vegetables and flowers. Likewise, it has 23 municipalities which are divided by zones, such as paramos, reservoir, forests and Valle de San Nicolás; the latter, with 9 municipalities, including Rionegro, which stands out for its economic development and business settlement, where a large part of the flower export crops is also housed. According to the commercial registry of the Oriente Antioqueño Chamber of Commerce, for the year 2019, 43 companies were authorized as flower exporters, which were analyzed to determine the target market, the exported FOB value, products and shipping areas of the merchandise. |

Las exportaciones de flores, representaron para Colombia durante el año 2020, ventas totales por 1.393 millones, dejando en evidencia la importancia que tiene el sector para la economía nacional, el cual genera más de 120.000 empleos directos, vinculando principalmente a madres cabeza de hogar y población femenina rural. Cundinamarca, se consolida como el primer centro de producción de flores, seguido de Antioquia, donde la mayoría de cultivos están ubicados en la subregión del Oriente Antioqueño. Siendo esta una de las nueve subregiones que compone el departamento, goza de variados climas que le permiten tener fuerte vocación agrícola por tener cultivos de frutas, hortalizas y flores. Así mismo, cuenta con 23 municipios los cuales están divididos por zonas, como lo son paramos, embalse, bosques y Valle de San Nicolás; esta última, con 9 municipios, entre ellos Rionegro, el cual resalta por su desarrollo económico y asentamiento empresarial, donde también se aloja gran parte de los cultivos exportadores de flores. De acuerdo con el registro mercantil de la Cámara de Comercio del Oriente Antioqueño, para el año 2019, estaban habilitadas 43 empresas como exportadoras de flores, las cuales se analizaron para determinar el mercado objetivo, el valor FOB exportado, productos y zonas de embarque de la mercancía.
