| description | Industrial hemp is an alternative for Colombia's transition towards a green and sustainable economy. This study analyzes its economic, environmental and social impact, highlighting its potential to diversify agricultural production, reduce dependence on polluting raw materials and generate employment in rural communities. In economic terms, its integration in sectors such as the textile industry, construction and bioplastic strengthens the country's competitiveness and its positioning in international markets. Environmentally, its low water consumption, its carbon capture capacity and its contribution to soil regeneration make it a highly sustainable crop. At a social level, its production favors the inclusion of small producers, the substitution of illicit crops and rural development. Despite its advantages, the expansion of industrial hemp in Colombia faces regulatory and financial challenges that limit its adoption. Therefore, from a qualitative documentary review methodology, the need to strengthen public policies, facilitate access to financing and promote research and industrialization to maximize its impact is identified. The results of this study can contribute to the design of strategies that position hemp as a strategic sector within the Colombian bioeconomy, promoting more sustainable production models aligned with the country's environmental commitments. |

El cáñamo industrial es una alternativa para la transición de Colombia hacia una economía verde y sostenible. Este estudio analiza su impacto económico, ambiental y social, resaltando su potencial para diversificar la producción agrícola, reducir la dependencia de materias primas contaminantes y generar empleo en comunidades rurales. En términos económicos, su integración en sectores como la industria textil, la construcción y el bioplástico fortalece la competitividad del país y su posicionamiento en mercados internacionales. Ambientalmente, su bajo consumo de agua, su capacidad de captura de carbono y su contribución a la regeneración de suelos lo convierten en un cultivo altamente sostenible. A nivel social, su producción favorece la inclusión de pequeños productores, la sustitución de cultivos ilícitos y el desarrollo rural. Pese a sus ventajas, la expansión del cáñamo industrial en Colombia enfrenta desafíos regulatorios y financieros que limitan su adopción. Por lo que, desde una metodología cualitativa de revisión documental, se identifica la necesidad de fortalecer políticas públicas, facilitar el acceso a financiamiento e impulsar la investigación y la industrialización para maximizar su impacto. Los resultados de este estudio pueden contribuir al diseño de estrategias que posicionen al cáñamo como un sector estratégico dentro de la bioeconomía colombiana, promoviendo modelos de producción más sostenibles y alineados con los compromisos ambientales del país.
